Flake Dress

The Anthony Price dress from the new Cadbury's Flake advert is simply breath taking. The layers of canary yellow chiffon move beautifully as the dress is spun and sprayed with Cadbury's signature shade of purple.

Stunning, it could be an advert for a Dior perfume.

The spraying of the dress is reminisant of Alexander McQueen's spring/summer 1999 show.

From Russia with Love

This measuring device marries two of my loves; baking and russian dolls. My sister bought this for me when she was in New York, a great gift (summer = gifts for Makeda).

Knife and Spork

In Roald Dahls semi-autobiographical novel, Boy he talks about his Norwegian father who looses an arm under quite strange circumstances (read the book to see what I mean). His father, not to be disadvantaged by his lack of arms fashions a fork that has a knifes edge. Maybe the person who designed this fork, knife, spoon combi had that story in mind.
I was thrilled when my friend bought this back from Norway for me.

Perfect for picnics!

Ostrich Eggs

I recently saw an ostrich egg for the first time when in Barcelona. At first I thought it was fake because the shell feels like smooth porcelain and they look like dinosaur eggs (Jurassic Park being my point of reference here). One egg is the equivalent of 18 normal sized chicken eggs, that would make one HUGE Spanish omelette. Tasty business!

Bull Fighting

Hate the sport, love the fashion.

Love the tassels and embellished lapels on this statues jacket. He lifts his hat to Dr Alexander Fleming, thanking him for inventing penicillin.

When I think of bull fighting I am always reminded of Pepito, 'The Bad Hat' from the Madeline stories. He dreamed of growing up to be a bullfighter until Madeline put him straight. Note his cape and pom pom hat... The bad hat.

Parks For Adults

Another blog about Spain... In a Madrid park I got my first experience of playgrounds intended for older people. The elderly are encouraged to exercise while they sit and increase their manuel dexterity doing finger steps. It was interesting to see how people made a social exercise of doing a bit of light exercise. I think we need to introduce things like this in England, they're big fun!

Welcome!

Le Swing

Although Madrid doesn't have the same calibre of vintage shops as London and New York, Le Swing is a true credit to the city. Its avant garde collection of modern , high HIGH end vintage is how I imagine the inside of Lady GaGa's mind looks. Most of the pieces aren't for everyday wear and are more suitable for the stage but defo have a look-see if your in Madrid...
