Down at the Bottom of the Garden

Amongst the birds and the bees....

When shopping in H+M yesterday I was frilled to discover their new Garden Collection. All the pieces in the range are made from recycled fabrics and have a bright floral theme. This collection could be mistaken for Valentino in places showing that environmentally responsible clothing need not be drab or hippy. I bought the red jacket and wore it with a vintage floral dress underneath, loved it.. I can't wait to buy the red dress and wear it with sandals and my cream Chloe wedges (from a thousand seasons ago). Prices range from £12-£35.

My red jacket.

My future red dress.

Jaime Le Bon Bon!

NERDS, DWEEBS, them bubble gum things that were really sweet on the outside then sour on the inside ... Where have all the sweets from my childhood gone? Cyber Candy in Brighton are bringing back some of the heavy hitters from yester-year (well, America). Lucky Charms and other cereals that are soooo bad for you are also for sale but at £6 a box you might as well pour yourself a bowl of sugar and put some colouring on it. My teeth tingle at the thought of it, seriously!

It's Like Candy

"It's like candy
I can feel it when you walk
even when you talk it takes over me
you're so dandy ".

LOVE, songs with dance routines. Nothing is more entertaining than seeing people throwing shapes in time with the music and each other.

YSL TRIBUTE 2.... YOU

Past season, who cares?! I still need these shoes in my life. Yves Saint Laurent have the knack of putting shoes out that are so classic, iconic, AMAZING; that they transcend seasons (hence why they have to carry over the styles so often). I LOVE the Tribute 2 pump, IDST!x

Pin the Tail On...

For my 21st birthday I had a children's party themed party. I wanted to put a twist on some of the games so I made the 'Pin the Tail on the Donkey', 'Pin the Tail on Makeda'. To do this my friend, Stevan drew a donkeys body (very beautifully) on a piece of parcel wrap and then had a picture of my head where the donkeys would be, as you can see from the pic. It was SOOOOOO much fun, the party was a couple of years ago and i still have it.

Brogues

The perfect formal flat, I always wear them with skirts, dresses and trousers. I love to get them in more unusual colour ways like this pair by Pied a Terre.

European Food Packaging... Always Entertaining

European food packaging seems to be stuck in the 70s, I appreciate this! My friend Nick brought this back from Berlin, it makes me smile!

Doughnut Cake

I love (yes, i love alot...) doing doughnut towers as birthday cakes. You just buy a couple of dozen doughnuts, pile them in a pyramid, no glue etc needed. Then place candles and sweets all over it in a kind of haphazard way. It makes for an interesting, cost effective, tasty centre piece for the table. No cutting required.

If your feeling a bit more thrifty use Crispy Cream doughnuts... YUM!

If your feeling a adventurous cover it with different coloured icing. They come in tubes and are really simple to use; you could make it look like an erupting volcano...

Book Chandelier

I saw this when I was in a restaurant in Barcelona. Such a simple and affective idea for a light shade, it's just made out of an open book (i think it was an atlas) and wire.

Creme Brulee

I LOVE creme Brulee (i have the biggest sweet tooth). If there is one on the menu I have to order it! I found this recipe a few weeks ago and made it for the girls at work. It's really tasty but has a quarter the calories of the standard brulee.

Recipe:
1 vanilla pod
300ml 0% Fat Greek Yogurt
100ml whipping cream (whip it so it's thick but not stiff)
3-4 tablespoons clear honey (if you have a sweet tooth use 4)
For the crispy top use any sugar (golden granulated is good) and 'brulee' using a chefs blow torch or the grill.

It takes minutes to make and is the perfect breakfast treat.

Macaroons, Macarons?

I LOVE macaroons! Having only been introduced to the recently, they have become the screen saver in my mind (along with the Yves Saint Laurent 'Tribute too' pumps). My first taste occurred at the Juicy Couture store opening party where they were abundant thanks to Laduree. Unfortunately living in Brighton and because they are £2.00 each (I could eat 10 in one sitting) it would be difficult to fund this habit. So I made my own...

I found this to be the easiest recipe to use after looking at alot of different ones:

Ingredients
225 g Icing Sugar
125 g Ground Almonds
4 Egg Whites- aged overnight at room temperature
30 g Granulated Sugar
Pinch of Salt
Food Colouring of Your Choice.

The first time you attempt to make macaroons I would recommend you use jam as your filling. I think it tastes great and there are so many steps to the cookie recipe, making a filling as well would be a bit over whelming.

Good Luck!!!

Horses Hoof Shoe

I am fast becoming obsessed with black lace ankle socks, if I see a pair I have to buy them. I think they look really chic and dare I say, 'whimsical' when teamed with ankle boots and shoe boots (see above picture). It's a bit 'too much of a look',( as my Auntie Wini would say) to wear them with court shoes (unless your going for the Harajuku look) but with bare legs, a great dress (short looks best) and your Horse Hoof shoes, you'll be looking FABO!
